Legacy Dynamics

Microsoft Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision), Dynamics AX (formerly Axapta) and Dynamics GP (formerly Great Plains).

We keep them running

A system is not obsolete because it is old. Dynamics NAV, AX and GP run substantial businesses well, and a stable system that fits its business is worth more than a new one that does not. We support all three, including where the partner who built it has moved on, gone quiet, or was never replaced — which is more common than anyone admits.

There is no pressure in that support. If what you have works, keeping it working is a perfectly good answer, and we will say so.

The upgrade path, where there is one

AX to Finance & Operations follows the same logic at larger scale.

GP is the exception, and it is important to be plain about it: there is no in-place upgrade from GP to anything. What is described as an upgrade is a migration, and it should be planned as one from the start. Microsoft has published an end to mainstream support for GP, and the date has moved before — ask us what it currently is, because it should shape when you start rather than whether you do.

Migration

Whichever the starting point, the work is the same in outline: establish what is actually there, decide deliberately what comes across and what is left behind, and prove the result before anyone depends on it. Most migrations carry more history than they need because nobody asked the question early enough.

An Aud-IT Review is how we would start — a documented assessment of what you have and what moving would genuinely involve, which is yours to keep whatever you decide.
