Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations
Who F&O fits
F&O is the right answer when scale or structure genuinely demands it: high transaction volume, many legal entities with intercompany trade between them, multiple currencies and countries, advanced warehouse or manufacturing operations, or allocation and settlement rules complex enough that a simpler system would need constant manual help.
It is also the platform for businesses whose commission and royalty structures are a first-class part of the accounting rather than an afterthought — where who is owed what, on which revenue, under which agreement, is itself a hard problem. That pattern turns up in talent and entertainment, in licensing-heavy consumer brands, and in distribution businesses with layered rebate arrangements.
Here is the part that often goes unsaid: F&O costs meaningfully more than Business Central, in money, in time, and in the internal effort it asks of you. More businesses believe they need it than actually do. If BC will carry the work, BC is the answer, and we will tell you so even though the smaller engagement is worth less to us.
How we implement F&O
The same twelve phases apply, but the weight sits differently. Think IT and Plan IT become substantially heavier, because with more entities, more stakeholders and more interlocking rules, the cost of discovering a misunderstanding late is far higher than in a BC project.
Expect more governance, a longer runway, and a genuine commitment of your own people’s time. We would rather set that expectation at the start than let it arrive as a surprise in month four.
